    Константин Бальмонт – переводчик в антологии «ПОЭЗИЯ АРМЕНИИ»

    The article analyses the history of K.Balmont’s participation in the creation of the anthology «The Poetry of Armenia» and his translation of the poem «Incense» by Sibil (Zabel Asadour) and the issues related to the problems of translation. The problems of linguistic connections, peculiarities, parallels and differences between the original and translated texts are also discussed.

    The present study is devoted to the history of creation of Ivanov’s translations of Armenian authors, involving of all the surviving materials: correspondence between Brusov and Ivanov, other persons’ epistolary materials, the preparatory materials the poet used, the manuscripts of Ivanov’s translations and the line glosses taken from the archive repositories of St.Petersburg, Moscow and Rome.

    Из истории сценических постановок оперы «ОГНЕННЫЙ АНГЕЛ» (С. Прокофьев – В. Брюсов)

    The author of the article tells about some episodes referring to the performances of «The Fiery Angel» – Sergey Prokofyev’s opera. The opera was first staged only after the composer’s death and at first drew the attention of the Western conductors and directors. It is noteworthy that the modern directors tend to modernize the opera’s plot.

    Переводы Эллиса, А. Глобы, И . Головачевского в антологии «ПОЭЗИЯ АРМЕНИИ»

    The article refers to the analysis of the translations of verses by R. Patkanyan, I.Ioannisyan and Sipil in the anthology «The Poetry of Armenia». The above-mentioned verses were translated by Ellis, A.Globa and S.Golovachevsky. The author of the article made an attempt to reveal whether the translators had managed to preserve the Armenian national spirit and the emotional mood of the originals.

    В. Брюсов и русская синкретическая культура начала XX века

    Underscoring that Brusov took a leading role in the process of creation of «the new culture» we would like to again stress that he had no intention to synthesize different arts. Moreover, he denied any connection between art and religion. Brusov’s work on theater studies shaped the Russian theatrical thought of early XX century. His role in the creation of musical and artistic works is also of crucial importance.

    «СЛЕДЫ» Брюсова в архиве А.М. Горького

    The documents from A. Gorky’s archives, where Brusov is mentioned, are reviewed in this article. In addition to 12 letters Gorky wrote to Brusov and 6 letters Brusov addressed to Gorky, Valery Brusov was mentioned 119 times in the writer’s archives, in Gorky’s correspondence with various addressees. At the same time, we do not intend to reveal the literary and aesthetic relationship between M. Gorky and V. Brusov.

    Художественные искания армянских переводчиков в интерпретации произведений из цикла В. Брюсова «В Армении»

    The article presents Armenian translations of Valery Brusov’s poetic cycle «In Armenia». Particular attention is paid to the translation of the central poem «To the Armenians», which conveys the views of the Russian poet on the particular historical path of the Armenian people and their national spirit. In comparison with the authentic material, the four translation solutions are analyzed, performed from the 30s to the 80s of the 20th century. The article gives the value judgment of the poems «To Armenia», «To Ararat», «Tigran the Great». On the basis of the analyzed material the author of the article comes to the conclusion that a considerable part of the poems in poetic cycle should be translated anew. The comments and remarks should be considered in the new publication of Brusov’s poetry in Armenian.

    К проблеме: Брюсов и традиция. Мифопоэтический образ клеопатры в поэме «Египетские ночи»

    This article analyses the mythopoetic image of Cleopatra in Valery Brusov’s poem «Egyptian Nights», which is the processing and ending of Pushkin’s eponymous poem. The Russian symbolist creates an image of the Egyptian queen according to the historical evidence and cultural tradition, but at the same time according to the symbolist worldview. His lyric heroine combines the specific features of the historical Cleopatra and the mythical Aphrodite, and becomes the personification of eroticism and passion that exceeds all other values and exercises the complete power over a human life.

    Валерий Брюсов и Владимир Маяковский: к истории спора футуристов с символистами

    The individual aspect of young Valery Brusov's project is decisive for the formation of the Russian Symbolist Movement. The specificity of Russian Futurism is indeed conditioned by the collective dimension of experience and an artistic expression in which the use of coarse parody often hides the subtle interplay of literary allusions. The reflexion hinges upon the image of poet Brusov who is caricatured in the founding article of Russian Futurism «A Slap in the Face of Public Taste».

    История армянского народа в оценке Валерия Брюсова

    «The Chronicle of the Historical Destinies of the Armenian Nation» supplements rare impartial studies on the Armenian nation in a foreign language (Russian). Being laconic as a chronicler yet accurate as a literature historian, Brusov managed to explain the historical background of the development of Armenian spiritual culture (in part, of the Armenian literature). The author of the article studies the way Brusov perceived and estimated the Armenian cultural life, underscoring the necessity and urgency for a new qualified Armenian translation of the above-mentioned work.

    The article is aimed at revealing the drama of the personal life of Nina Petrovskaya, focusing on the period when her longtime relationship with Valery Brusov was coming to an end. The comparison of the facts presented in her letters to the poet with her biography demonstrates not only the particularities of the Symbolist concept of the creation of life, but also Brusov’s and Petrovskaya’s principles of modeling the identities of themselves and others.

    The issue of the Russian culture literature centricity in terms of the Silver Age poetry influence on the logosphere of the Russian society in 1920s as set in a novel «Abode» by Zakhar Prilepin is analyzed in the article. The author of the article shows that due to the dynamics of Brusov ideas’ perception Zakhar Prilepin identifies the protagonist specific features, unveiling the society total spiritual state.

    On October 6-8, 2016, the XV International academic conference «Brusov Readings-2016» to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of «The Anthology of Armenian Poetry» was held in Yerevan. The conference was initiated by the Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences with the support of the Graduates Association of the Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Yerevan, the Union of Armenians of Russia and «Antares» holding. The opening ceremony of the conference was held on October 6, at 10 a.m., at the Conference Hall of the Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences. The famous academicians and young specialists from Armenia, Russia (about 10 cities), the U.S., France, Czech Republic and other countries participated in the conference. In the course of the opening ceremony Gayane Gasparyan, the YSULS rector, the representatives of the RA Ministry of Education and Science, RA Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of Russian Federation in Armenia, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Yerevan and the Union of Armenians of Russia addressed the audience.The following events were held within the framework of the conference: the presentation of the facsimile publication of «The Anthology of Armenian Poetry» and the official site of the Brusov Science Center, as well as a concert program. The participants of the conference visited Martiros Saryan House-Museum, the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex, and Oshakan (the guests visited Mesrop Mashtots’s grave on October 8, within the framework of the celebration of the Holy Translators’ Day). The tradition of the «Brusov Readings» goes back to 1962. During 50 years the conference was held not only in Armenia, where the center of Brusov Studies – Brusov Science Center at the Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages – is situated, but also in Russia. The «Readings» are usually arranged for the anniversary data. The current year’s date is crucial not only from the viewpoint of Brusov’s creative activities, but of the historical destiny of the whole Armenian nation as well. The matter concerns the publication of the monumental work – «The Anthology of Armenian Poetry from the Ancient Times till Today». Brusov was the first to unveil the ample poetry of Armenia and to disclose the enormous richness of multi-centennial Armenian poetry – a really challenging task. «The Anthology of Armenian Poetry» was published in 1916. 2016 is marked by the resurgence of the epoch-making publication.
