The article analyzes the reasons Valery Brusov translated Gabriele D'Annunzio’s tragedy “Francesca da Rimini”. It should be noted that if the formal reason for it was Vera Komissarzhevskaya’s suggestion to translate it, the main motivation was: Russian creative intelligentsia’s longtime interest in the plot of the tragedy, known by the great poem by Dante, interest in the work of D'Annunzio wich was “trendy” in Europe, the talent and experience of Brusov as a translator.
