dc.description Russian
dc.description.abstract The importance of both literary novelty and its parody can be witnessed in the strange interplay between two books published in 1895: Aleksandr Emel’ianov-Kokhanski’s Bared Nerves (Obnazhennye nervy) and the third issue of Russian Symbolists (Russkie simvolisty). The potentially ambivalent reading strategy that these works provoke demonstrates the indeterminate quality of Decadence in early russian modernism. Parody will be the key means to introduce and explain a new artistic mode.
