dc.description Russian literature
dc.description.abstract A lyric verse, notably melodious lyric poetry, is written and perceived as a musical, rhythmical and dynamic composition. It is very important for a translator to preserve adequately the musical structure of the verses. The author of the article considers three translations of «The Songs without Words» by Verlaine from this point of view and traces certain components of the musical structure, in particular, rhythm, intonation and tone-painting. A translation made by Boris Pasternak can be considered an example of the sensitivity to music.
