dc.description.abstract The paper aims at studying lexicalization patterns of English and Armenian verbs and the translation problems that their difference may pose. The analysis is based on the material of 60 sentences selected from R. Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" and its Armenian translation. The predicates of extracted sentences are expressed by "motion", "speech activity" and "visual" verbs having the semantic component of the “manner of the action” encoded in their meanings. The analysis shows that English is a typical satellite-framed language, as proved by L.Talmy and many other scholars, whereas Armenian is a verbframed language as it tends to have a verb that incorporates “path” in its meaning as the predicate of the sentence while “the manner of the action” is either omitted or expressed by an adverb, noun-phrase or participle I form of a verb that denotes manner of moving, saying or looking.
