Abstract

Analyzing the current situation of education in penitentiary institutions, the national and international policies, identifying the approaches and positions of the main actors in the process, reviewing existing policies and practices, the authors argue that it is necessary to design and develop a contemporary system of penitentiary education. The contemporary system includes a model for managing education in the penitentiary system, the role and functions of the bodies involved in the educational process, methodological foundations, as well as the necessary pedagogical conditions for the organization of effective educational activities in these institutions.
